"Ski for Light"

Foundation History

The ULLR “Ski for Light” Foundation is the philanthropic affiliate of the ULLR Ski, Bike and Social Club.    Our mission is to raise money to provide equipment and opportunities which promote participation in skiing, biking, and other activities for physically and mentally challenged individuals of all ages.  We have branched out beyond providing downhill adaptive skis to providing adaptive equipment for cross country skiing, canoeing, horseback riding, biking, race running, water skiing, exercising, swimming, and our latest, golfing; also wheelchairs and camp scholarships.  The Foundation was formed in 1984 as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation.

The ULLR Foundation’s rich history began in 1973 with annual auctions to raise funds to purchase “sit-skis.”  Besides benefitting disabled skiers with “sit skis,” ULLR Ski Club volunteered in the “Ski for Light” MSC program for visually impaired skiers, and the hearing impaired skiers’ program at Cedar Hills Ski area in Eden Prairie.

Over the years the ULLR Foundation has raised well over $150,000, which is promptly donated to organizations for purchasing equipment benefitting disabled, active individuals.  Some organizations which have benefited from ULLR Foundation gifts are:

Courage Center – adaptive downhill and water ski equipment, racing wheelchairs, hand cycles

Hennepin Parks – adaptive skis

Wilderness Inquiry – adaptive canoe seats

The ULLR “Ski for Light” Foundation is a non-profit organization, run entirely by volunteers.  All gifts are fully tax deductible and go directly to fund assistive programs.  Our web site is:  ullr.org/UllrFoundation.htm.

Our Board consists of thirteen dedicated individuals.  It is through the generosity and dedication of ULLR Club members (about 300) that the Foundation is able to provide “gifts that keep giving.”
